Train journey from Lima to Huancayo, Peru.

Train Into Thin Air

Photo Gallery – Rough Edit

These images were taken during a train journey from Lima to Huancayo, Peru, a small, valley city high in the Andes Mountains. This is the second highest railroad in the world, with the highest point over 5,000 meters. The trip took 14 hours and was the first serving passenger since the bride bombing on the historic line in 1980s. All but eight passengers were Peruvians, and many seemed board on this inaugural tourist trop. However a number a passengers — especially the children marveled the brutal, gray mountainscape. By the end of the trip, the few passengers still standing were festively celebrating, a sense of festive camaraderie having developed in bitter air of the observation deck.
